Kaliya's mom, self-published author, inspirational speaker, content creator, mentor, podcaster, and business woman- Ariel is redefining diabetes. She realized on this journey of becoming Pumped 4 My Journey that none of the above would be possible without God. Ariel is truly an overcomer and woman that walks by faith and not by sight. She's determined to make a positive impact in every child and family that's affected by type 1 diabetes.
Ariel has been featured in the following:
Diabetes Awareness Campaign-"Diabetes Looks Like Who 2023"
God gave me a vision to write a book about my life with type 1 diabetes to help inspire and empower others living with this condition.
When I first was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and even through the years, I didn't see anyone that looked like me. I didn't have anyone place a book in my hand and tell me, "I understand" "I wrote this especially for you."
I am that person that's seeking and looking for each child and their family that have type 1 diabetes and let them know I'm here for them.
Pumped 4 My Journey is more than a book but it's a calling to help others like myself.
I'm creating my own path that will allow me to reach out to just name a few: the hospitals, doctor's offices, libraries, and schools to be a blessing to those that need it the most.
Growing up as a preacher's kid, I was taught to serve others. Meaning, I have to go back to that 12 year old that was diagnosed 21 years ago, and place a book in her hand, and encourage her that no matter what you face living with type 1 diabetes you can make it.
When I first wrote Pumped 4 My Journey, I was determined to get my book in the middle, junior high, and high school I attended in Prince George County Schools in Virginia. I often think back to my younger self in school living with diabetes. I could of used this book in the clinic, library, and guidance counselor's office. My first priority was to make sure these children had this book and knew their lives matter. Prince George County Schools was the first school district to approve Pumped 4 My Journey.
Pumped 4 My Journey is also available as a resource at Chesterfield County Schools, the Virginia Department of Education, Wolfson's Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, and Caldwell Pediatrics and Wellness Center.
The Petersburg Breakfast Rotary Club recently supported Pumped 4 My Journey and purchased books to go into Petersburg Public Schools.
What I absolutely love about Pumped 4 My Journey is being able to mentor children living with diabetes. The book that God instilled for me to write has truly blessed me because I'm able to meet so many strong and amazing children living with diabetes. When I get the chance to meet each and every child, it brings tears to my eyes. I am literally meaning the pages of my book and the reason I had to accept my calling. I dedicate this to every child and their family living with diabetes. We will and we shall conquer diabetes together.
